From the preeminent classical architecture firm in the US, the latest apartments, townhouses, and country houses, with interiors by leading designers

Whether a brand–new country estate, a renovation of a triplex penthouse apartment, or a merging of two townhouses into one, each of the 20 projects in this sumptuously illustrated volume bears the hallmarks of Peter Pennoyer Architects’ work: skillful adaptation of the principles of classical architecture, sophisticated use of details and materials, and insistence on meticulous craftsmanship, resulting in a balance between comfort, beauty, and luxury. The firm’s architects worked with exceptional interior designers, including Katie Ridder, Miles Redd, Steven Gambrel, and Jacques Grange, to create these residences, and though all are grounded in the classical tradition, each is singularly tailored to its location and the individual taste of the client. With an authoritative text by architectural historian Anne Walker and hundreds of specially commissioned photographs, site plans, and floor plans, Peter Pennoyer Architects: City and Country showcases residential architecture at its finest.

Peter Pennoyer heads PPA, a 50–person firm of architects, interior designers, and related professionals based in Manhattan and with an office in Miami. Founded in 1990, PPA is recognized as a leader in new construction, renovation, and historic preservation for residential, commercial, and institutional commissions across the United States and abroad. He lives in New York City and Millbrook, NY.

Architectural historian Anne Walker holds a master’s degree in historic preservation from Columbia University and is the author of numerous books on historical and contemporary architecture and design, including Peter Pennoyer Architects: Apartments, Townhouses, Country Houses; A House in the Country; Life at the Top; and Rowdy Meadow: House, Land, Art. She is an adjunct professor at New York University, where she teaches with Pennoyer. She lives in New Canaan, CT.

Architecture and interiors photographer Eric Piasecki contributes regularly to ELLE Decor, AD, and House Beautiful, among other publications nationally and internationally. His books include Peter Pennoyer Architects, Katie Ridder: Rooms, Katie Ridder: More Rooms, A House in the Country, and Rowdy Meadow.

One of the preeminent architectural firms in the nation, Peter Pennoyer Architects developed a signature style that honors the principles of classical architecture in fresh, modern ways. City and Country highlight 20 of the firm’s projects, spanning from country houses to city apartments, that all play off their location while remaining grounded in tradition.
